QMedia is a next generation social media enabling its users to form communities that organise themselves. In this way, users are not constrained to activities and tools provided by the P2P application used.

QMedia version 1.0 is a special version of Tribler, an open-source media-sharing Peer-to-Peer (P2P) application**. QMedia version 1.0 builds on the QLectives Platform version 1.0, as a result of which Tribler was enhanced with features that increase connectivity between P2P users and enables users to add more functions to the P2P application themselves.

As compared to Tribler, QMedia version 1.0 provides the following Additional Functions:

• A new and user-friendly user interface which improves the experience of users and makes their interaction simpler
• A user interface where users can interact about which new small programs to install in order to create new services and applications on top of the existing P2P structure
• Examples of new additional programs that users can install such as identifying the ‘best contributor’, ‘new contribution’, ‘hottest contribution’, etc.
• A service which allows P2P users to post, reply and ultimately spread comments to the channels or groups to which they have subscribed; so channels and groups which are unpopular, of low quality or contain malicious comments gradually ‘disappear’.
